The educational infrastructure is very attractive
in Athlone with Athlone Regional College established in 1970 now designated to
an Institute of Technology and catering for over 5,000 students. The Institute
offers part-time and full-time programmes at certificate, diploma, degree and
postgraduate levels. The National Polymer Development Centre based in Athlone is
Ireland's leading Polymer Technology and Development Organisation, providing the
polymer industry with a rapid turnaround, confidential and industrially focused
technical service.

and Second Level Schools exist within a 10-15 mile catchment area. Over 3,000

Athlone Insitute of Technology Athlone Institute of Technology was
established in 1970. The principal aim of the Institute is to provide education
and training for the economic, technological, scientific, commercial,
industrial, social and cultural development of the State, with particular
reference to the midlands. The main campus is situated approximately 1.5
miles from the town centre on the Dublin Road. The Institute has developed
rapidly since its foundation and to facilitate this growth, the original
building has been extended on several occasions within the 45-acre landscaped
campus. The main campus building currently houses the Schools of Business,
Management and General Studies, Engineering, and Science, the Library, the
Information Technology Centre, the main student canteen facilities and the
Institute's Administration offices. The Department of Design are the sole
occupants of the Northgate Street since the Department of Hotel, Catering and
Tourism moved out to their new building on campus in September 2003. A new
