Claypipes:
Knockcroghery is synonymous with the production of claypipes.
The
village was famous for almost 300 years for
the production of clay pipes or "Dúidín". Production ceased abruptly on the 19th
June 1921 when the village was burned down. In 1997, the
craft of clay-pipe making was revived on the original site of Curley's clay-pipe factory in
Knockcroghery, using the original tools, moulds and methods dating back almost
three centuries. These authentic craft pieces are uniquely Irish and may
be smoked or simply admired for their cultural significance.
Ethel
Kelly also
produces a range of traditional Celtic Ogham writing under the name "Ogham
Wishes".

Irish dancing is
also very popular in the area with the Geraghty School of Dance. The renowned
Brian Geraghty is behind this school. Hailing from Knockcroghery, Co.Roscommon
and from a strong background of dance , Brian studied with the renowned 'Murphy
School of Irish Dance' from the young age of three. At seven he was crowned
All-Ireland Champion and went on to add many titles and awards during his
competition years.
